- Access 97 error message when I try to use any of the wizards.
- Windows and Office were uninstalled and installed again. Access installation was done with Select All options. The same problem persists.
- Same CDs used in my machine were used in other machines and it works fine.
- What can I do to use access with my laptop. IBM thinkpad.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

I'm getting the same problem. Advice that I've read is to uninstall Office, remove the DAO directory from under the microsoftshared directory and re-install.
Apparently it's some sort of bug to do with NT getting confused with the long file names! Rubbish eh!

I had this problem for a long time (ie tried to run MS Access 2000 wizards and kept getting ActiveX Component can't be created). I searched the web for answer to this problem and kept coming across very technical answers. I am not a programmer or am willing to touch anything like the registry so thought this will be helpful to anyone who's in the same position as me.

The solution can be found by following these few simple steps:

1. Click to the following microsoft site
<A HREF=" TARGET="_new"> The title of this page should read
ACC2000: Updated Version of Microsoft Jet 4.0 Available in Download Center

3. Scroll down until you reach the following link
jet40sp4.exe and click on it

4. You will be asked what you would like to do with the file.
Choose Save to Disk and save into a folder in your computer (I have a Download folder where I download all my internet programs etc). Windows Help has instructions about how to create a folder.
5. Once the download is completed you can INSTALL the Microsoft Jet 4.0 straight away. What's great about this program is that it puts all the things you need (like dao360.dll, which is what the Wizard needed) in all the right places without you having to fiddle about.
6. Try the wizard when you start Access 2000 again. I did and finally it worked!!!!!

I am getting the same message but, this is when I'm trying to send an email from a mapi control. It works on several machines, but fails on a couple. they all have the same references and I did go to the http link from previous response and replaced the jetengine. PLEASE HELP

Here's another MS Knowledge Base site to check out; it's a full checklist of things to troubleshoot when this error comes up... The entire article covers problems with OLE automation, which sounds more like the issue nufather is having rather than the DCOM issues which raise the same error number and message.

<A HREF=" TARGET="_new">
Carter Wickstrom
wickerman26@hotmail.com
