Good afternoon,

I'm trying to run a program on a new computer that worked just fine on an old computer.

My old HP that was running XP died, and when purchasing the new computer, I made sure the computer exceeded the recommended specs for this program. The new computer is running Vista 32-bit Home Premium. The developer certifies the program will work properly without issue on Vista.

I can get the program to install properly, however when I click on the icon to start the program, I get a pop up that says "Active X component cannot create object." Then a second pop-up that says "Couldn't open database". The program then terminates.

The program was initially constructed to use databases on Access97. I however am not using Access, I'm using Open Office instead. My old PC had Open Office on it as well, and the program worked properly and without issue.

The development forum shows instructions on how to be able to edit the Access databases using Open Office. I have followed those procedures, however this hasn't solved my issue.

I have contacted the developer, the publisher and some user forums and while they were initially helpful in attempting to assist, they have stopped responding to my queries.

I'm dying to get this to work. Any help will be appreciated.

You need to give us more information. Essentially all you have told us is that an unspecified program has had an error when trying to load an unspecified ActiveX component. That isn't much to go on.

For now, I'd be guessing that it is a DAO issue.

Apologies.

It wasn't until after I posted that I realized that this was a 'by-professionals-for-professionals' forum. I think my question won't fit within the spirit of the forum and any solutions offered would probably be well beyond my grasp of computers.

Thanks for the reply, however.

All the best,
Brockleigh
