I am having a wierd problem with the PDA Phones and ActiveSync.

This problem only started after I installed Exchange SP2.

I would install the self created cert on the phone and then configure Active Sync to connect to the exchange box. Phone will sync the first time and for only about an hour after it was setup. After that the phone stops syncing and i get a support code of 0x80072ee2. I have looked it up online and it refers to a DNS Cache issue on the phone. I would tend to beleive that but it syncs a few times and then stops working.

They wanted an easy way to access the server so they bought a new doamin and pointed it to the WAN IP. For example:

I created the cert using and i used to connect it to the exchange box. Did I set it up wrong?

Server only has 1 NIC and is not running ISA.

Ports 443, 80, are being forwarded to the server.

Thanks

Nick

Once you have Exchange ActiveSync set up, you'll run into problems when you do a normal USB ActiveSync. Did it get synced via USB before it stopped working?

I think so. The user wants his favorites and some files synced and connecting USB is only way to do that. Or is there another way.

The DNS cache gets populated with bad information during the USB sync, and it keeps Exchange ActiveSync from working for quite a while. There's a registry hack on the phone you can do to keep this from happening.

Use the PHM registry editor on the phone:

Find this key and turn off DNS caching:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\InternetSettings\DnsCacheEnabled

Set it to 0

If the DnsCacheEnable entry doesn't exist, create it as a DWORD value.

Do a soft reset to make the change live.

It seems that has fixed their issue.

Yet another star for Shack.

I found that online already but was hesitant to hack the registry of the PDAs.

So I thought this problem went away... But even after making the change the user continues to have the same problem. They are using a really old Linksys routher that has a firmware back to 2000 so i bought a new netgear fwg114p in hoping that it could be the old router that is causing a connection problem.

After that I am totally lost as to what the problem could be.
