Active links in Windows 98SE

Hi,
I am a new member and I hope someone can help me with this. When I click a link on a website in Windows 98 SE, an outline appears until the new link opens up. It is as if you can see the pixels making up the outline of the link. It doesn't happen on my other computer with XP installed.

I am not bothered by this but my brother who designed a website for a customer has had a complaint from his customer about it, and he doesn't know how to correct it.

It sounds from what you're saying that the screen is slow to build (or refresh). Is your brother's customer experiencing the same as you, i.e. the site builds slowly but does eventually show ok?

I suspect your XP machine is going to be a lot faster in all respects than your W98 PC. Different browser, different version, shared RAM, old video card perhaps?

What is the customer running? XP? W98? How old is his/her machine?

Would you care to name this website so forum members can check it out?

Hi Roger,

Thanks for your reply. OK, the customer is using a MAC but the effect is the same in windows 98 SE as I have checked it on mine. It is fine with my XP machine and also with my brother's XP so he didn't know about the anomally until his customer told him.

If you click any of the links on the left hand side you will see what I mean. A box appears, enclosing the link within it. If you return to the home page afterwards using the back button on your browser, the box is still there.

Hmm... Not seeing that here at all John. Tried it on a slow Windows 98 SE machine and also two W2K machines. All are running I.E. v6. I am left wondering if it's to do with the video adaptor being used. Also, if the PC has video on-board the motherboard, often the main RAM is shared. This can often lead to slow refreshes.

Same thing happens to me on a 2k machine but in Firefox only, IE works fine. Only difference is the version of Sun's Java...

The test continues...
