I am running W2K Server with Arcserve 2000 w/SP4, build 1100. I have had this happen twice resulting in 2 active jobs that are hung up. It seems the backup runs to the end and for whatever reason does not end, it stays in the active position. The first time this happened, (after stopping RPC service, client agent service and all engines without solution)I went into the 00000001.QSD file (job status file) and deleted the job. This removed the "hung" job from view in the job status window, all was well I thought. The next backup job ran and hung up as well. So I put the other job back into that folder. Now I have 2 hung up job. I added a new job and it appears to have run a couple of times without hanging. I just dont know how to successfully remove the Active jobs and prevent the next job from hanging. Any ideas?

I used 'speshalyst' suggestion and it cleared the job that was hung on my ArcServer manager. Thanks for the tip!
I could not find anything near as helpful on the CA support site...go figure :)

I tried that, unfortunately I am having a problem with cazipxp unzipping the source file. I have downloaded it twice and tried to open but after it tries to uncompress file, I get the error "could not open source file"
Not sure why this file wont open, went to CA website but nothing found there as to this problem. Tried to open as test on another machine but no good. I know path is typed right because it tries to open but then cant.

Copy the cazipxp.exe to the same folder as the patch.

try this from the dos prompt...

cazipxp -u <patch>

cheers

go to your Arcserve home folder. In the Installation directory where your ArcServe is installed is a folder like 0000001.qsd inside the folder are all pending jobs.
Find the file that matches the creation date for the job that you can't stop.
Delete the file ,, then restart all the ArcServe Engines and it will go away...
If you can't figure out which one then delete them all .. but you will have to create your jobs again..

Ok followed ofere71 instructions since no matter how many times I tried to install the patch as instructed, no good. The issue has changed to this, my active jobs are gone but everyday the backup runs, kicks out the tape and starts to update the database. I get the error [CAT] Failed to login into ARCserveIT database, EC=-2005. Then backup ends, and database engine stops. I restart the database to be ready for the next backup job the following day and same replay for several days now. I have tried to find out why this is happening but no resolve. Any clues out there? Thanks so much. Trying to get this thing straight so I can leave for holiday.

HI,

Looks like a DB problem...
Stop the ARCServe DB engine
check for r*.* files in the ARCserve 'database' folder
delete all the files.

delete all the ARCSERVE\temp folder

right click My Compter\properties\advanced\Environment variables..

Check for a variable called RNNAME.

if present delete it and read this SYSTEM variable.

the value of RNNAME would be <server_name>

reboot the server.. restart DB engine..

cheers

so when you refer to r*.* files....when i look in DB, I see files like rAAAAAAA.chg (lots of these), rdm.bil, rdm.chi, rdm.chk. so I deleted all of them. Sure hope that was what you were talking about. Deleted all in Arcserve Temp folder. no RNNAME in Environment variable. Stopped DB engine before and then rebooted. So you think this will fix my prob? keeping fingers crossed

I have a similar setup: win2K, ArcServe 2000, and an unstoppable job... I tried following ofere71's advice, and the job is currently gone (so far so good). I will see how this back up fares when I get in tomorrow morning.

I bid all good night.

ksb
