I have 20 fairly new desktop computers. One of the them is a high end workstation. I would like to install AD on the high end one and have the others join in. I use comcast to connect to the internet. I don't have any proxies, firewalls, etc... What's the easiest way to set this up without using a DNS server?

can't, active directory cannot exist without dns services

Active Directory will not work without DNS, there is no way around this. Set up DNS on your DC and set up a forwarder to forward "internet" DNS lookups to COMCAST's dns servers.

So I can have dns and AD on one dc and all i have to do is setup the forward zone to point to comcasts dns? if that's the case I think i can do that..

thanks a mil!

Yes it's quite common to have your DNS server on your DC. For your size it shouldn't a problem. It's not a forward zone, it a Forwarder for your DNS server. You will find the setting under the properties of your DNS server.
