Greets,

Im migrating a local user profile to our new Domain. (Win 2k server)

the local user login name is 'jchung', but is linked to the "JAMESR" profile.. i created the jchung profile on the domain, and initially logged on. Here's where i hit a SNAFU:

I want to copy the old local profile to the domain profile, BUT, when I hit control panel -> system, the local/JAMESR profile doesnt show up. I get access denied errors when I try to manually copy the JAMESR profile into the jchung one, so im a bit lost as to where to go from here.

any suggestions?

thanks, as usual.

This would have to be a local client or member computer as you can't do this on a domain controller. On 2000, Right click "my computer", properties, user profiles tab. You can copy the settings from one user to another. Do not be logged on with the account you are copying from or to. On XP, right click "my computer", properties, advanced tab, and hit the user profiles button.

Start, Help. You'll be surprised what's there. A+/MCP/MCSE/MCDBA

Thanks seaspray,

however, the problem is that the local profile currently logged on isnt even ON the user profiles tab. Every other computer i've migrated has had it, and this one seems to be giving me issues.

Verify the profile is not a roaming profile or a mandatory profile. Additionally, in order to copy a profile you can't be logged onto the PC as that user. Finally, if the user is a local admin, you must remove them fromt he local admins group before you will be able to copy the profile.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark

just as a follow up:

i got this done.. i manually copied all the files from the old profile into the new one, but i just had to delete the temp inet files directory first, since thats where it was dying. (long filenames)

thanks again!
