Hello,

Within AD 2003 how do you get users profile`s within an OU to update the department field with the correct field, So for instance the account`s OU anyone within this OU would automatically get assigned the correct Department field of Accounts Dept.

Help Appreciated

Richard

I'm interested to know if this has the OOH and AHH affect for others as it did for me. If you look at the script you will see that it takes an argument. The arg is the LDAP path of the OU. So what is so really neat about this is that the display identifier automatically passes the OU name as the argument.

You can do this type of interaction with any object in AD, so the potential of this is amazing.

I want to point out also that the CN-409 happens to be the English Language interface.

If you have just looked at the script, give it a try to really get the feel for this. When I first saw this it was in a room full of fellow geeks getting certified to teach the vbscritp workshop that Microsoft has for our Premier Customers. All of us were floored by it and wanted to know how to do it.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

Very nice script work, markdmac (pat on back). I'm not particularly impressed with what it does, as it doesn't save any time administratively...but the concept and writing is good.

Agreed monterjta, as I said the code is simple but the potential for this kind of implementation is what is so cool.

If you had 1000 users in an OU this would certainly save you some admin time. One right click, type the Department name and bam all 1000 users are updated.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

Usually I am not so critical. I think today I woke up on the wrong side of the bed. I'll refrain from taking it out on the general public.

Mark Bloody marvelous piece of work you`ve done there much appreciated thanks very much for your help and thanks to all who have chipped in at some point.

Cheers Richard

Mark,
Once again, an excellent script with an abundance of potential.

Porkchopexpress,
A star for you for coming up with a solution for rdfdr78. (I'm on my star giving campaign)

Cheers.

When you are the IT director, it's your job to make sure the IT works. If it does work they know already and if it doesn't, they don't want to hear your pathetic excuses.
