My company is currently migrating two separate domains into a single, new domain. We have a migration tool for all of the in-house computers but we have around 300 remote laptops (domestic and international) that we will need to migrate onto the new domain. I know we are not the first company to do this but I have not been able to find an answer to my question. Here is some technical info:

Windows 2008 server
2 VPN clients:
- Cisco
- Sonicwall

The question that I am hoping to get help in answering is this: Is there a way of migrating these remote laptops without having to have the end users mail them into the company's HQ? Tools, procedures, etc?

Any information would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Kevin

Is the domain to remain the same? If their domain and logon information is going to remain the same, then the laptops that are pulling roaming profiles should be fine and will require no changes.

He clearly stated they are merging two domains into one, new, domain.

I'm Certifiable, not cert-ified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

There are no more PDC's! There are DC's with FSMO roles!

I know the SonicWALL GVPN. It is very easy for the end user to modify the connection credentials (IP address/domain name + passphrase) and then the user would be presented with a logon box that would be pre-set by your staff to have the new domain listed along with the user's previous logon name.

So, all the user would have to do (and I have faith this is a user-level procedure) is delete the old GVPN connection and add the new credentials, then login as usual. Sending instructions via email with a support phone should be all it takes. Unless you (or someone else) writes a script that can do it automatically. With SonicWALL's VPN, I don't think there is anything else to configure on the PC.

Now for the Cisco I'm not sure, but it can't be that different.
