Active directory Installation Failed.

I have a domain controller using Win2000 Server in my network and has been working without problems and also i have a member server in my domain and i'm planning to promote that member server to be a domain controller in an existing domain, and when the installation process begins, it gives me the following error massage:

THE OPERATION FAILED WITH THE FOLLOWING ERROR:
The handle is invalid.

I checked ip's configurations, subnet mask, defaul gateway, DNS, windows updates, drivers, network connections, and everything is setup correctly.

I am not fully understanding this. Correct me if I am wrong but you have a W2K server which is a DC and a member server.
You are trying to make this member server a DC so presumably you are running DCPROMO and then you are getting this error.
Is this correct or am I on the wrong path
