Have 2 computers, 1 laptop, 1 desktop both running Act2008. Same database on each. Laptop restored from Acronis home version after operating system failure. Laptop appears to be restored. After restoration we have tried to sync with desktop which contains the current information. Sync engages and in sync window on laptop gets as far as "synchhronising files" "overall progress is about 3 quarters way along" this process remains running for more than 2 hours. Appears stuck at this point. Progress bar continues to move in window and desktop sounds as running. Always synced in about 10 minutes prior to loss and restoration.
Do we have sync problem? Should we renew sync set? Help?

Most backup programs can't properly backup a SQL database ... if you have a backup created by ACT! Backup, you could restore that on the laptop.

If not, you should cut a new RDB file from the desktop

Thanks very much for such a prompt reply. Did resolve by loading new remote database but now new problem. Only its an old problem which Act tech support have had to deal with 5 times already. Have done 3 reinstalls since Nov 07. When we add new remote to laptop or amend anything, I lose outlook (2002) connectivity. Its either no icons, error saying "not configured properly, disabled extensions etc.
This time on loading new remote db it says "cannot configure...." but is showing old database name "MedisaveLaptop1" which was deleted on loading MedisaveLaptop2. (new name)
Have been through outlook e-mail accounts etc etc and it shows as M..Laptop2 but error is reading m.. laptop1? Any suggestions on fixing?
Have viewed knowledgebase and followed instructions but dont know why error is reading old deleted db?

Have you tried removing the Outlook address book integration and then re-creating it?

Also what exact version of ACT! - full build from Help | About.

Have tried removing address book+ adding back in. Have run detect/repair in outlook both from Help and within Windows. Have tried setting up new profile on outlook+ still get error message that outlook is pointing at the wrong deleted database. message "cannot configure or MedisaveLaptop1.pad is locked, do you want to configure now? M..Laptop1 is deleted and M/Laptop2.pad is shown in path and directory as address book to be added but still error message. Also run check & repair in Act. I run that everyday anyway.
All Act support say uninstall/reinstall both Act and Outlook again! Will be the 4th/5th time since Nov.
It is Act 10/02.191 + updates on both l/top and d/top.
Uninstall/reinstall takes such a long time. Act Support dont seem to care that this version is so very tempramental.
I really wish I hadnt upgraded. What I really want to know is how to stop this loss of conectivity everytime I have to unpack a database to laptop? By the way I only lose it in outlook now. No longer on Word and Excel since update. Any suggestions?
Kind regards

Thanks Mike, will give it a go but not right now, actually have to other stuff to earn money! On knowledgebase it shows "renaming Act Plug-in optional". Which order do you suggest I carry out.
Disable, recreate address book or
disable, include rename act plug in and then recreate. In this instance is the renaming of plug in really optional or must I follow to the letter?
I'm not "techie", but can follow a list of instructions in the right order. Just let me know the right order. Ta very much!
Kind regards

Just to clarify, follow all instructions on to end + then add address book? Yes or no? To give you some idea how we ended up having this conversation.........
I'm a self employed private medical insurance broker whose most valuable possession, next to children+husband are my computers, so with daily "issues" I am now extremely computer savy. I was also "start up" bus with no money so couldn't pay to get anything fixed. Its surprising what you learn and how quickly! Computers are absolutely vital to me on from 7am to midnight. I've used Act for about 6/7 years from Act6 upwards + customised layout quite a a bit. Am always using knowledgebase, Act for Dummies, forums etc. Usually forums for computer "issues" are best place to get resolution. Users can get better "lay mans" explanations on internet than you can ever get from a "Techie". They speak language of their own.. present company excepted of course! An act "expert" partner came out once, cost a fortune + spent morning working out he didn't know how to fix it! Sage Act Support UK is rubbish..uninstall/reinstall is their mantra.
I'm always looking at your stuff. Answers always useful. Might need some more info on this though when I get stuck into middle of the instructions...... Speak soon.
Thanks

Yes, follow to end, then try re-addin... I also made some other suggestions in the other forum -
Any "ACT! expert" with a conscience should not have charged if they couldn't fix the issue they came to look out. When I consulted, I used to charge at the top... but I'd never be able to look myself in the mirror if I didn't feel the customer got the service they paid for.

Funny enough, I just wrote an extended post on this very thing here -
