Hello!

I've been trying to convert data from an excel sheet into ACT, which sounds simple--according to the manual and a few online sources, all I need to do is click "Import" under File to start the wizard. But when I open the File menu, the "Import" and "Export" options are grey-ed out and cannot be clicked. I've tried closing and opening things to see if that makes any difference, but nothing helps.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be very grateful! I've noticed that my "Back-Up Database" option seems to be "disabled" as well...this I can work around, but the import/export feature is something I do need.

Thanks in advance.

Hello MadelineBasset,

You are describing what happens to Users who have "Standard" or "Browse" security levels. To be able to Import or do a Backup you will need to have "Administrator" security level.

To check this: File select Administration then Define User.

Hope this helps,
Michael

Thank you, Storyteller. Unfortunately, it seems like being stuck in "Standard" security level means I can't select Administration -> Define User. (At least they don't seem to show up as options. I'll keep looking for them.)

Thanks anyway, though, I really appreciate your time!

Hello MadelineBasset,
Are you using ACT! in a multi-user networked environment or are you using it as a stand alone user?

If multi-user you will have to ask around to see who has the "Administrator" security and have them do the data import or have them change your security level.

If as a stand alone user, you have a problem since as a stand alone user you should have "Administrator" security level by default.

Hope this helps.
Michael

ps: have you cleaned up your data? This should be done prior to importing it into ACT!.

Oh, dear. I'm working as a stand-alone user. (And yes, the data has been cleaned up.) I think I have a problem.

Thanks, Michael. I appreciate your help.
