Hi,

we had a tape break inside a 9940b drive. Oracle came out and declare the drive broken and manually remove the tape from the drive.

I couldn't vary the drive off before it was removed (in use) and can't seem to do anything to it now(offline).

0, 2, 1, 2 offline in use XA1035 T9940B

ACSSA> dismount
Volume identifier(volume label): XA1035
Drive identifier(acs,lsm,panel,drive): 0,2,1,2
Option(force/<return>): force
Dismount: Dismount failed, Drive identifier 0, 2, 1, 2 offline.

i've restarted ACSLS to no avail. does anyone know a way to fix this?

Hi,

Please, could you try with:

dismount X drive_id force

(Also, try with "clear lock" of the drive)

Take a look to following tips:

Symptoms

Tape stuck in drive or tape removed from drive.

Unable to dismount a tape from a drive that does not physically have a tape.

Drive shows "IN USE" when no tape is loaded.

Additional Information

ACSLS

1190

Sun Solaris

IBM AIX

An errant volume is unknown or a stuck tape has been removed and ACSLS still thinks the tape is in drive when physically it is not.

Resolution

UWHV4BP Internal ID use only.

Issue this command just as it appears, except replace the lowercase x's with the correct values:

sql.sh "update drivetable set drive_status = 28 where acs=x and lsm=x and panel=x and drive=x"

This command will reset the database for this drive to clear the status.

Afterward check the drive with a query, and if it is ready/available, but still shows the tape in it, mount & dismount a scratch tape to it and this will clear the last item from the db.

Issue a dismount command from the cmd_proc at the ACSSA> prompt using an uppercase X in place of the volume id (The X replaces the volume ID):

dismount X drive_id force

This will typically unmount the drive and clear the in use status.

Hi Iago0618,

Some questions...

What type of library do you have?
Is posible install another drive in this position for send the commands of ACSLS again?

Thank you!!!

okay so...

The Oracle tech came out this morning and replaced the drive. I varied it online and ... tada.

there are 2 morals here:
1. wait until the tech replaces the drive before asking others for help.
2. pay for technical support.

@R1957: it's an SL8500. and thanks.

No problem ...
It is a pleasure to try to help others (despite my poor English).
See you soon!
