I currently have a 12G2 R6 upgrade-backup card and was planning on using it on a R3.0.2 ACS processor. Is this a straightforward upgrade, or are there some risks or additional work that will be required?

Thanks for your help,
Pete

You should with out any problems, insert the 6.0 upgrade card into the 3.0 Power it up and the light will go btween red and green. When it is done, a solid green light will show. CHeck from a display phone with Feature 59. Make sure your card worked and your 3.0 is now a 6.0 IF that is the case, then you can back up your programming, then swap the processors and restore from your card. Maybe 10 minutes total time involved.

If after checking feature 59 the 6.0 went through ok, what did you mean by the part after that - "if that is the case, then you can back up your programming, then swap the processors and restore from your card"?

Before I take the system down I would do a manual backup, then if the 6.0 upgrade doesn't work out, could I power off, put the backup card back in and start back up and do a restore? Wasn't sure how much of a risk I would run, ending up with a system that was half upgraded and not working...

Misunderstood.Thoughtyou were changing out the processor from a 3 to a 6. If you are going to just upgrade to 6.0, insert the 6.0 upgrade, watch lights, check with feature 59. If the upgrade took then you are good to go. Backing up your 3.0 first to a differnt card is smart.

Backing up your 3.0 first to a differnt card is smart.

Why is it smart? You already have the R3 backed up to the old BU card. That's going to be pretty useless though because you can't use it to restore anything but another R3. You can only BU and restore to the same release.

As to your question about a partial upgrade, I've never seen that happen. Either the card works or it doesn't.

I attemped the upgrade and it didn't do anything. Powered down the system, put the R6 upgrade card in slot 1 of the processor and turned the system back on and waited a few minutes - light just stayed green and it stayed 3.0.2. Are there any troubleshooting resources on the web or suggestions anyone has? It's appreciated..
