I Have a customer that has a bad ACS RL4 and a piggy backed Module RL3.
They have a Large VM card and a backup and restore card.
I'm going to change out the Processor to a RL7 with a large VM card.
Will the RL7 have any issues with the other module connected?
Will the VM card be only 12 mailbox capacity or will it still be 16?

Thanks

I've been told that it doesn't work after R6 and you need a new one for the R7, this is only what I have been told and haven't confirmed it, perhaps someone will know for sure.

What is needed to do a backup and restore?
Do I need a 355A adapter with an 8 conductor cable?
And does that plug into a station port?

thanks

In your first post you said that you are going to be putting in a R7, it has flash memory now or you can get a backup card for it. I was hoping that TTT would chime in and let us know for sure about the older remote/backup and restore card working with the R7, I have only put in the new ones with the R7.

Hi Telprog,
The R7 backup card has more memory than the R4 did. I don't know if there are any other differences. I always install the RAC card with the R7. It's for the customer's own good.

I also use the green backup card it doesn't have a modem but it works just fine.

I think the RAC card works from the older ACS. I think I used it for remote before, I did not use it for the back up though. I used the internal back up. I also use my laptop to program them, so, I have a back up on the laptop as well.

In recent days I have done several customers that were going from R3 and R6's to R7's. The RAC cards are currently on back order, so we don't have the new ones to put in. (A recent batch of cards caused the R7 not to even boot up with them inserted - could be why they are back ordered right now)

Anyway, I used the old cards in the new R7's, they backup just fine, and the modem answers when called.

So, I guess they work OK.

Hi TTT,
That's interesting. I was told they would not work I need to do some experimenting.

I put an R3 RAC card in an R7 today, it backed up fine. I did not try restore. If it backs up. it should restore.

As for compatibility, I've found the backup restore will not work between R3 and R4 (was able to back up from the R3, could not restore to the R4.
The original question of how many mailboxes will be available, the default for the pc large is 10, you have to change this setting in the voice mail menus (you can have as little as 8 and as many as 16 mailboxes.

The R7 can not be restored from any back up of any other release. A restore must be done from a back up of the same release. The RAC card for remote access should work, the card should work to back up to. You should be able to restore from the card, but only to the same release you backed up from.

That's true. The back up card works by first upgrading the software to the current release. You then back up the translation and restore it into the new processor. You can not restore any different release into a processor.

We need a conversion utility, badly.

I have not looked for the config file in both releases to see if the file could be edited from the old release into the format of the newer release.

I would guess they are not so different, and you could create a new file, then copy it into the back up restore card. I have doone that with other systems, but not Avaya's.
