ACS R7 and 308EC Line Numbering/slot 2

Hi,

Another confused person re documentation. I have a 5 lot carrier with Partner ACS Release 7.0 Control Unit (5x9). I am having a problem, probably configuration...i have 6 lines, and am using 5 going into the controller. First 5 work correctly. The 6th, i am using on the 308 module. Having trouble here. Now, should the 308 be installed in the first slot, or 2nd slot? what line number is it going to be?? I have 8 extentions. Can I use the extion outputs provided from the processor? I don't have to use the ones on the 308...do i?

The 308 would go into the left most slot and it will be lines 6,7,and 8. You can use the extention ports on the processor 10-18

all 8 extensions can go on the processor

OK, so if say I were to leave the 308 card in slot 2, then the lines should look like 9,10,11...is that right? or, do you need to have it really start from the first slot? That is, do you have to fill the 5 slot carrier from the left most slot first?

I dont beleive it will work in slot 2

I know in the partner and partner 11 slot one module has to be in slot one and working or nothing works

the module in slot two can go bad and it only effects those lines and stations but if the module in slot one goes out the system goes down

Im not sure if ACS does the same though Ive never tried but I assume it does , easy enough to try .

Well, I put the 308 in slot 1, set the phones to see lines there as 6,7,8...and it WORKED!!! Weee. Boy, the avaya documentation is not very good at all in describing this configuration, NOT----AT-----ALL! Lots of guessing work with this box!

But, at least once you get it, it does seem to work well and its good now.

Hi Bert,
In all fairness to Avaya, they do state how to populate the carrier. All the training courses are clear on this also. You do have to read the installation and maintenance documentation. It's even a free download off their web site.

Before you start bashing Avaya, Are you certified on the Partner system or at very least did you go the Partner Authorized Reseller training class.

I did look through all of the documentation, and there is nowhere that states how the slots will define lines for the 308. There is one picture that shows a 308 to the left of the proc, and its slot 2, and shows lines defined as 22,23,24! I am not sure if that is correct either, but it didn't work.

So, maybe you could point out where in the documentation this explained. I looked through it for quite a while a could not find the answer. I found it on this forumn though, and happy for that.

I think there could be a little more clarification in that area in the docs...thats all. Otherwise, the system seems to work well as I said.

3. Insert the PARTNER ACS processor in the center slot of the carrier

4. In the other slots, from left to right, first install the T1 or 1600 DSL module, then the 012E, 308E, or 206 modules, folled by the 400 or 200 modules and/or a Partner Messaging or PARTNER MAIL VS module

As far as the numbering thr book tells you on 2-10 to start numbering on the procemmor and continue from the top leftmost port

I would have to agree Avaya's manuals are, in my opinion, one of the easiest to read and understand.

for ttech, I did see those lines of instruction, but I read it differently...

It makes it sound like t1 and 1600 in first slot, THEN next slot 012e, 308, etc.

They could say, slot 1 can use t1, 1600, 012e, 308, etc...

I don't realy want to belabor the issue. There is always some room for improvement. As i said, things are working well now. Everyone is happy!
