Set up is as follows:
slot 1: 308EC
slot 2: Partner Mail VS R5
slot 3: ACS R2
slot 4: 308EC
slot 5: 308EC

Just to be sure...when counting the lines in the Partner, Lines 01-03 are on the processor, right? And if the middle port (may be the line..don't know for sure since i'm in Jax, FL and the system is in Chicago) on the 308 in slot 1 is dead, that would be Line 05...Right?

Here's where things get weird.

The lines are broken into two groups: group one, 01-07, is working just fine; group two, 08-12, says that Line 09 is dead and if some one is using Line 08, then the calls never go to the receptionist, never roll to voice mail, blah blah blah. It just rings ad infinitum.

What I don't get is why if Line 05 is the dead one, Line 09 is acting up... ???

Man, do you need remote maintenance capabilities!

Line "9" may be referencing the button on a set, not the logical CO line number in the switch. The caller may say "my line 9 is dead on my phone", yet they may be counting intercom keys, reading an out-of-date label or counting from top to bottom!

Call them up. Get them to talk to you from a set with a display that also has the "bad" line. Have them F00 in and press the offending key. The display will show the bad line number, then there's no guessing involved.

If line 9 is bad and is second in the CO hunt group, it will ring open and prevent that call and others from ringing or going to vmail. Test it: have them use line 8 to call line 9, then have another one call line 8 too. It should come in on line 10. If it does, line 9 is bad on premises. If it doesn't, line 9 is probably screwed up at the CO.

Slot 0 is the center CPU slot.
Slot 1 is the far left slot.
Slot 2 is between slot 1 and the CPU.
Slot 3 is to the right of the CPU.
Slot 4 is the far right.

Slot 1 has lines 4-6 and the center line cord would be dead if line 5 were dead coming into the system from the demarc.

Slot 3 has line 9 as the bottom line cord.

I'd have them check them both/all with a 2500 set before going much further.

Navcomp,

To start with ... you are probably having problems with your ACS system due to a misconfigured 5 slot carrier.

Here is how your carrier should look after making the correct setup changes for the modules.

Slot #1 - 308EC
Slot #2 - 308EC
Middle Slot - ACS Processor
Slot #4 - 308EC
Solt #5 - Partner VS R5.0 voice mail mod (always the last "line" module from left to right in the 5 slot carrier not counting the processor.

Getting these changes made after powering down your switch should fix most of your problems automatically. I recommend doing a system default on your processor to clear ALL previous programming - go into system programming and press # 98925327 and the display phone at Ext #10 or 11 should should "system defaulting" and just wait until the processor green lights. You now have your switch back to factory default settings - except your VS R5.0 programming which isn't affected by this processor reset.

You will need to program the Hunt Group #7 as follows - 2 port VS R5 with the 4 port Blue label expansion PC Card uses Exts # 46-47 assigned to Hunt Group #7 in Hunt Group programming feature #505. 4 port VS R5.0 will use Exts. # 44-45-46-47 assigned.

See if that works in solving the line problems. If the 308EC does have a bad line port, it can be fixed rather easily. Andrew Roach

I thought PMVS could go in any slot, other than 3?

"I thought PMVS could go in any slot, other than 3?"

well, yeah, except if there are 206 or 308 cards after the PMVS, there is a 6-station gap in the dial plan. I have seen several systems where an installer added cards after the initial installation and was too lazy to move the voice mail to the last slot and reprogram the ports, and IMHO its just sloppy work.

thanks, everybody, for all your suggestions. I had someone physically check the switch and it turned out that line 09 was not firmly seated in the module. *!%^$%#*

I totally agree that whoever added the modules after the VM was being sloppy. If I could get my company to fly me up there, I'd fix it. ;) As it is, it works so I'll just leave it as is until something else happens.
