We have had this phone system for years, but have just finally gotten around to setting up individual voicemail accounts and an Automated Attendant. The problem I have seems like it would be a relatively simple one to fix... I have pored over the manual but have found nothing (probably missed it through the terminology). Anyway, what we have is the Automated Attendant picks up when an outside line is called, announces the company's name, and instructs the caller to dial an extension or wait on the line for the operator. The problem is all the phones in the building still ring a half-ring before the Automated Attendant picks up. A minor annoyance, but an annoyance all the same to the boss.

Any help to rectify this situation would be greatly appreciated!

Processor Module: ACS Proc. R3.0
Voicemail/Auto Attendant: Partner Mail VS R5.0

better just to turn the ring off on all ext for outside lines

Thanks so much, it worked perfectly. Whew, load off my back.

One other question, I am wanting to set up an employee directory for anyone who doesn't know the extension for who they are trying to reach. So, for example, when a caller calls, they will have the option (aside from directly entering the extension or going to the operator) to punch in the first three digits of the target's last name, and they would get an extension number or be transferred to the extension that they want. Is there any way to do this with the system I have, and if so, could you tell me how or point me in the direction of a guide? The man at Avaya seemed to think we could do it (we called them earlier for help, but $106 every half hour was a little steep for the boss), but I have as of yet have found no reference to such a system in the manual.

Thanks again!

The Partner Mail VS5 does NOT have a dial by name directory. You can have the caller go to the announcement that can list all of the extensions and directions on how to transfer to them......Bob at extension 10 Joe at extension 11.. to transfer press *8 and the extension number to replay press *4.........

To get a dial by name directory, you would need to upgrade from the Partner Mail VS platform to the Avaya Partner Messaging platform.

1043's suggestion to incorporate the directory into the auto attendant greeting is probably your best solution.

Yeah, I kinda figured. Not a problem though. We have lived without it for the past four years, its not going to kill us now. But yeah, we may just add the extensions of a couple of the big dogs in the company to the Auto Attendant greeting.

Thanks again!
