What does Acronis True Image Home 2010 do that the built-in Win7 (Home Premium specifically) back-up utilities cannot do? In other words, is it worth buying for $50?

Thanks,
Eliezer

Yes, it was a legit copy. I paid for it with my own money. :) It was True Image 9.0. It was giving me errors on my external HDD - my PC was fried by an unrelated power surge.

How were you connecting to othe external drive, over USB or ESata? If the PC was fried, what are the chances the USB bus controller chip was similarly fried?

Hands down the best for backup Macrium Reflect.free version here
# Create a disk image whilst running Windows using Microsoft Volume Shadow copy Service (VSS).
# Image to Network, USB, FireWire drives and DVD.
# Built in scheduler.
# 32 bit and native 64 bit versions.
# Industry leading compression levels and speed.
# Linux based Rescue CD with Network access and full GUI. Only 6.5MB in size!
# Built in CD/DVD packet writing engine. Supports packet writing to DVD DL media with Windows Vista.
# HTML log files.

Anybody else used the Macrium Reflect product - free or paid? Any other thoughts? Seems I've seen the name once before, but I don't remember whether it was good or bad.

I might have to give that one a try myself sometime, just to see what I think of it. That list sounds too good to be true for a free backup program.

My main concern with that backup program is "will it run Crysis." No, wait, that's not it. My main concern is does it ever have issues with restoring the back-ups. Because if it has a fair number of issues, it's worthless as a back-up option.
