Acrobat rasterizing embedded spreadsheets & printing with errors

I recently upgraded from Acrobat 6 to 9. There are some benefits I've found to this and a LOT of annoyances. The most notable being on some larger jobs we have here where I'm printing from AutoCAD to PDF I end up with a number of errors in the prints. I'm actually usually pretty lucky if it prints the whole job at all, usually getting hung up on some pages with Excel-embedded OLE objects.

I had/have no issues printing these in Acrobat 6, however with 8&9 there seems to be a disconnect. Can anyone offer some advice on what I can do to root out what may be causing me so much grief? And since I'm on the topic, is there a way to keep my embedded spreadsheets as Vector objects rather than rasterizing them?

Thought of some info to add:

I've basically tried printing this in 3 ways. Using AutoCAD's PDF setting, which is giving me the best result but with strange dots and things across many pages. Using Acrobat itself as the printer, and printing my job first to a DWF file and then printing a PDF from that.

The last two options basically behave in the same way and rarely complete the job.

This is all on Windows XP on a Core 2 Duo system w/ 3GB of RAM. If that's of concern.
