Hi,
I can't make PDF files from any program (Word,Excel or PageMaker for example). I get an error message saying "Insufficent Memory". I have 518mb ram. I get the same message even if I have only one line of text only or a few graphics.

I'm running Windows 98se, Office 2000, PageMaker 7.0, Adobe Acrobat 5.0.

So how are you trying to make the PDFs?

Do you use a Print/Export to PDF finction in those programs?

If this isn't working, try using the two-step method.

1. Print 'to file' after choosing Distiller as your printer. This will generate a postscript file, which will have the extension *.ps from PM, and *.prn from Office apps.

2. Open Distiller, choose your job options setting**, open the postscript file you just created and click OK.

** the settings you choose will be determined by the final output method of the PDF. 'Screen' if it to be viewed only on screen (smallest file size, highest compression, lowest quality), then in order of increasing file size, decreasing compression and increasing quality, choose 'eBook', 'Print' or 'Press'. The names of the settings also depend on the version of Distiller. What version do you have?

I have tried both ways. I've tried exporting to PDF and printing, choosing Distiller as the printer.

When I try either way it stops right away and says "Insufficient Memory". It's just not possible.

I'm not sure which version of Distiller in came with Acrobat 5.0.

Do you think the software it self has some corruption somewhere?

Thanks

Distiller 5 came with Acrobat 5.

Can you generate a postscript file? i.e. choose Distiller as your printer, click the 'print to file' option and then allow the postscript file to generate.

If you get the choice as to where to save the postscript file, put it somewhere you can easily find again. OR give it a really unique silly name so that when you do a search for the ps file, you can find it easily.

Okay, I was able to create a prn file, but when I try to convert that file to a PDF, I get an error message saying
"either the file is corrupt or not supported my Acrobat.

I double click on the prn file, Acrobat opens up and get that message.

Thanks

1) Make sure the prn file contains PostScript. Look for the line starting "%!PS".

2) Delete any PJL comments, in essence any lines above the %!PS line and after the last %%EOF line.

3) Try it again.
