Hello all,

I am trying to install Windows 2000 server from a CD and I’m getting an error; “acpi.sys corrupted” and then it asks me to reboot the machine. If I use the same install CD in another computer, it works (so it's not the CD).

From reading through many different forum posts I have learned that ACPI = Advanced Configuration and Power Interface. I have made sure to check the power configuration in the BIOS and have tested the install with Plug-&-Play-OS set to “Yes” and “No” and neither works. I have also read that the problem could be RAM related so I am testing the memory with “memtest v3.1” as I write this post. However; because I am receiving an error about the same file, every time, I don’t think it’s the RAM.

The computer has:
P4 2.8 GHz
1GB RAM
Intel D865GBF Motherboard

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jason

It might not be the CD, but rather the CD-ROM. It happens alot that the CD-ROM heads are not aligned prefectly and they get errors reading... think of it as if the CD was burned with a bit of misalignement and the CD-ROM is misaligned also, well, you get those types of error. Whatever you do, don't go out and buy one of those CD-ROM cleaning kits.. the head never touches the CD so there is no need for cleaning the head.

Thanks for the advice ReddLefty.
I will try installing with a known working CD-ROM drive as soon as the RAM test is done (it's taking FOREVER!).

That was it Redd! Worked no problem with a different drive. Thanks for your help.

I had just purchased a Compaq dl360 and during the install, after setting network devices, it would just shut the system down.
I flashed the BIOS and it worked ok. See if its a recient bios and flash it if its an old one. Good luck
