Acomdata 250 GB External not working

I have an acomdata 250 GB external which has been working fine until the past couple days. I plug it into my computer and it fails to detect it. I believe the problem is with the hard drive itself and not my computer, when the hard drive was working properly when I turned it on you could clearly hear the hard drive spinning, now the spinning noise has been replaced by an ever so slight clicking sound. The light on the front is still blue like always. I've searched for solutions to this problem and the best I've found is to replace the USB cable which too me seems irrelevant when I can clearly hear that it is not running correctly. First off, is the unit under warranty? If it is, then talk to your supplier about a replacement.

If not, then you should start by dismantling it and removing the hard drive from the case. Try connecting the drive directly onto a motherboard interface and see if you can now determine if it's spinning.

If it isn't spinning then the drive may be toast... Options? Take it to a specialist data recovery company if there is data on it that you must get back. This'll cost MONEY! You could try replacing the printed circuit board on the base of the drive, but it must be from an identical drive, and the board should be the same revision number, etc.

ah, thanks for the advice. After further inquiries I am fairly positive it is dead...there really wasn't anything terrible important on there its just annoying that i will lose it all
