Need assistance getting to my internal web server from the internet. Here are the particulars:

- I have an Apache Web Server running on a custom port (not 80 nor 8080) on an i386 Solaris 8 box (hostname: bogus) behind a Netgear RP614 router.
- The port number is above 1024
- I have HTTP service redirected to bogus' IP
- IP for bogus is static
- I can hit the web server from anywhere on my local LAN (192.168.0.xxx), i.e. - I get a "Connection Refused" error when I try to hit the web server from bogus (using Netscape v7.0) via the external IP, i.e. - I get "Page cannot be displayed" errors from my PCs using IE when I try to hit the external IP
- The httpd.conf file has "Listen" and "Port" set to custom port 6666
- I experimented with setting up bogus as a DMZ server, but that didn't work, either

?? Is there a configuration file I've failed to edit??
?? Has anyone with a Netgear RP614 router been able to make this work??
?? Could this be a problem specific to my ISP??

Any info/help would be great! Thanks in adance!

Yes, I do. From the Advanced-->"Port Forwarding" menu, I set the HTTP service to 6666 at bogus' IP. So far, no dice...

Nopek, no firewalls other than my Netgear router RP614 which I believe acts as a basic firewall.

Finally got my problem resolved. In addition to opening port 6666 on my router (HTTP Service from the drop-down menu), I also had to add another service (webserv) and forward port 80. I can now access my webserver from the internet.

Sol8Darity. I have the same problem as you.

APACHE SERVER
Port 9999
Port 80
Listen 9999
Listen 80
ServerName 192.168.0.4 -> Apache is running on that IP

NETGEAR ROUTER
LanIP 192.168.0.1
Port Forwarding 9999->192.168.0.4
Port Forwarding 80->192.168.0.4
DMZ off

Did I forgot something ?

I have the same problem, although I'm using port 80, but I'm on WinXP with apache2 and a linksys router

any advice?

thx

Hi all, I've been having the exact same problem where you can access apache locally but not from the internet when using a netgear router. Try upgrading your router's firmware. It's a free file download from netgear.com, and then go to your router's admin page (probably 192.168.0.1) and update it there. This worked for me, good luck!
