hi guys,

I finally got around to taking my ACS test and passing today, then I looked at what I need to know for ACE. From looking at the exam guide it doesnt look too difficult. How have people have taken it? how did you find it?

Also anyone know who to contact to arrange in the uk?

Thanks

im in the same place as you, you can find some information on the uni website that says whats in the exam...

im just concerned about the install and configure advanced applications bit because done very very little on conference centre application

and wanted more details about the bit where you link the ACM

ACA - IP Office
ACS - IP Office

If you know all apllications and know everything without looking in the docs then your only concern is the time you need to do it :)

Stupid things like WAN connections with SCN over it and IMS are still there

Yeah thats the same here, do you get to look at the documention on the install disks or you got to memorise it all?

In my opinion, for what that may be worth. The ACE isn't something you study for. You either know the applications or you don't. If you konw them you pass and it is as simple as that. Things like the WAN port networking are "rubbish", nobody does it anymore and even when you did it wasn't done much, hell I've probably only installed 20-25 WAN3 modules myself. Conference Center is probably the easiest application there is to install and get running so I wouldn't worry about that. CCC is a bit more complicated and you'll want to watch out for PC Wallboard, there were things in there that I was asked to do that I still have never had to do in the real world and I've installed well over 100 CCC.

Thanks for the heads up, I have contacted avaya and will see when they can fit me in. Fingers crossed

Apparently the ACE exam has a 70-80% failure rate on the first attempt.

Take Care

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

thanks for the confidence booster mattKnight HaHa!!

ACE is not difficult but i have done it twice, the first time i screwed up the IMS ( never installed it before, it is very buggy ), the IP Office was on version 3.0.most buggy version ever.
The second time i thought i was doing very well, only one task was out of time and still i failed.
You may not make any mistake our you will run out of time.
I had a argument with Avaya : this exam has NOTHING to do with being a expert but ALL with being as fast as possible to implement a IP Office.
I do not give any value to this credential, it is a waist of time. A engineer who can implement quickly does not necesserely be a expert, finding problems and solve them is more the work of a expert.

I'm not quite sure I 100% agree with intrigrant. I was the 2nd non Avaya employee to get the ACE in the US for IPO and I passed the 1st time without issue and didn't worry about time once. If you do this every day and you install all the applications as part of your every day job you won't have an issue. If, on the other hand you are a field tech who's job it is to install only the phones, or only rack-n-stack you will have issues.

If you are worried about any of this stuff because you have never done it then you should worry about the test. Honestly I would worry more that most of the test is so damn old that you haven't done most of it in so long that you don't remember it anymore.

I think that you can develop an easy study plan for ACE if you have the licenses and three computers. You need a xp client, server for apps and server for active directory and exchange. A routine would be to install all of the apps in working fashion then uninstall and reinstall over and over.

I used that plan and when the IMS portion came up I had twenty minutes to spare before time expired.

You can also create a list of all test questions and add those to the rotation when studing.

But still i think it is stupid that they use 3.2 right now !!!
5.0 is on the way so why isn't it on 4.x ???

I think it is a hardware issue. They would have to dump their 403 training stock to go beyond 3.2.

I did the same thing as CarGoSki. I took a single PC with virtual server and setup a server and some clients and away we went. Made live lovely since we could just dump the save disks and start over again.

I have not attempted the ACE because my boss doesn't want to pay for it right now (for the last 2 years actually), the ACA was for me a good learning curve as I am from the old "just phone" stock and had not much to do with networking. ACS was not much of a step up from the ACA (as far as I remember after 2 years) so I have to wait until I get the green light for the ACE and then I am not sure if I want to do it as it doesn't bring me any benefits of having it other then putting it on the bottom of my signature.
