We currently have Account Management 2.1 installed on our NT 4.0 server (a PDC & BDC) for password synchronization. Recently the password synchronizations has not been working correctly. Not sure what the problem is. Would like to start over.

Can we safely remove the account management software from the Microsoft servers without any harm to Novell server(s)? Are the Novell servers relying on the Microsoft servers to be there for replicating purposes or other reasons?

Our Novell guy is on vacation this week. I would like to give it a try while he is gone, unless it it is going to cause much grief.

Any input greatly appreciated!

TIA

Nate

I would not do it.
I am our Novell guy, and we do not use this product. But, when I saw this:
"Our Novell guy is on vacation this week. I would like to give it a try while he is gone, unless it it is going to cause much grief."
I almost came out of my chair! If someone other than me touched my stuff I would blow a fuse.
I understand you are talking about the NT servers but still it has to affect the Novell servers.

Account Management 2.1 is the re-birthed NDS4NT. This means it is a redirector and must be installed on all the PDC/BDCs on an NT4 domain.

The only time that the passwords cannot be in-sync with what is held in NDS is when there is a rogue BDC around that still has it's SAM.

Are you using the Account Managment Snapins in C1 or the older NWAdmin ones to change the passwords?

I demoted the BDC that was apparently acting rogue with a 3rd party utility, then just had the BDC for the time being. I also had to sync the time on the Novell servers (3). The Netware 6 server was set set to primary, and the Netware 5 & 5.1 wer set to single (our Novell guy set those up). That seemed to take care of our password issue.
I am currently in the process of bringing up another BDC that will hopefully work properly with Account Management.

It seems like not too many people use the Account Management... Any helpful suggestions for the Account Management piece?
