I have 2 routers (2501) that I want to set up as a practice lab. 1st question: Do I need any other equipment to start out? 2nd question: After hooking them up and opening hyperterminal, how do I access the router for the first time? I have the router console cable attached to my com port but I don't get anything. What do I need to do??

Thank you

Hi dar78
Set your hyperterm session as follows 9600-8-N-1-No flow control

Once connected to the router, hit <enter> and you should see the router> prompt

Hope that helps

PS is that doesn't work, make sure that your COM port is enabled in BIOS, etc. ------------
Certified in absolutely nothing :)

Thanks, I'll give it a try tonight.
