Accessing Normal Internet after being connected to VPN

Hello

I have a user who VPNs onto our network, after she disconnects from the network she is unable to use her own internet connection to access her emails and browse the web.

to give you an idea of what is happening and what I have tried so far read the emails below:

(She has also complained that her PC comes up with warnings that she has multiple IP addresses, whilst on the VPN)

E-Mail I received:

I am still having the same problem as last time though. I look at my e-mails first and then I go into concorde (via the VPN). When I go out of concorde I need to turn the computer off and on to be able to send and receive e-mails.

I replied with a possible solution:

I believe the underlying problem is that when you connect to the VPN it assigns you a 2nd IP address. This is completely normal as your own ISP will assign one address to your PC, and the VPN server will assign it one to identify it on our network here.

It possible may require just a "Repair" on the Local Area Connection....

After you have signed onto the VPN/AT&T and disconnected, can you try the following for me please….

If you go to the Start Menu > Control Panel > Network Connections…

Right click "local area connection" and choose Repair.

Then check if you can get your emails normally without rebooting.

I got a reply this morning:

Sorry didn't work. I tried both internet and e-mail after the repair but got message: 'server could not be found'. I had to turn the compu off and on to be able to send you this message.

I still get the message: 'your pc has multiple IP addresses. You should only have one connection activated at a time. Pleast unplug your network cable or disable your wireless network connection'.

Can I do something with the plugs under my desk to change them or unplug when I go into concorde?? Or any other suggestions to solve this?

James - if you're still trying to figure this out, I would suggest you disable using the default gateway on the remote network.

You can do this by going into the properties of the VPN connection.
Select the Networking tab
Highlight TCP/IP and click Properties
Click the Advanced button
Uncheck 'Use Default Gateway on Remote Network'

Apply the settings and reconnect to the VPN to see if it made a difference.

The VPN is still connected (that's the AGN Virtual Network Adapter) and this is why she's experiencing the problem. You need to educate her on how to disconnect her VPN session correctly.
