I have a wired network using a SMC Barricade router. The IP
is 192.168.2.1 I wanted to go wireless so I bought a wrt54g plugged the ethernet cable into the smc router and the other end into the the internet port on my wrt54g. ( I cannot not remove the smc and plug the modem and network directly into the linksys). It didn't work. When I plugged it into one of the the 4 ports the wireless worked but I'm unable to access the Wrt54g. It merely passes the IP of the SMC through to the client. I can log into the SMC but not into the linksys. How can I set it that I will be able to log into my linksys wirelessly and the smc. The IP of the linksys is 192.168.1.1 ?

Connect directly to the Linksys router. Set your workstation to 192.168.1.2, subnet 255.255.255.0, Gateway 192.168.1.1 Now access the web-based setup page at the address 192.168.1.1

. Disable DHCP on the Linksys router.
. Give the WRT54G a static IP; say 192.168.2.2
. Unplug the router, and remove your direct connection
. restore your workstation to its original IP setting
. Connect the linksys as you did before: LAN port on the SMC to LAN port on the Linksys
. Power on the Linksys

Does the linksys have to be 192.168."2".2 (like the smc)or can it be on a 192.168."3".1

If you place it at "3" there will be no LAN connection.
