Accessing My BCM50e Through Nortel Business Element Manater

Hi,

I have been able to access the BCM before through the very same PC but I wonder if somehow the IP has changed. I have tried to auto detect the IP through the Find Network but no luck. I think you guys will need to understand the setup I have before you can help me so here is my best try at explaining how my network is setup:

1. DSL Line goes into DSL Model.
2. The DSL Internet out goes into router #1
3. The BCM50e also goes into the router #1 2nd port.
4. Router #1 Sends cable out to a Switch.
5. Switch takes the line into my office.
6. Line from switch goes into my router #2 which is located in my office.
7. From router line goes into my computer.

I'm not network expert :) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you and the BCM in the same physical lcation? Why all the routers and switches?
 
I am in the same office.

The switch is used to distribute internet to all the stations in the office. We have 8 stations. The #1 router I don't really know why it's there but I'm assuming there was some reason for it. The 2nd router I have in my office is here because I had two computers in here so I needed to split the connection.

That's a very confusing network setup you have. What was the BCM's IP address before? Was it set to DHCP or was a static address assigned? What piece of equipment is set as the network's DHCP server?
 
I am not really sure what's set to do DHCP but will check tomorrow. I will post then.
 
Why don't you just go in using the OAM port with a crossover cable. Just change your ip address to 10.10.11.2. As the ip of your BCM OAM port should be 10.10.11.1. Then you would be able to go in and see what your ip address of the box is.

R1 = router 1
R2 = router 2
SW1 = Switch 1

R1 souds like your DSL modem which is also a router. Typically has 1-4 ports on the back of the unit. All you need in your network is a Layer 2 12 port switch that feeds your customers, including yourself. The router will dish out DHCP to all your connected clients on your SW1 or switch.

R1 connects to SW1
All customer clients (pc's and any networked equpment printers, BCM etc all should connect to SW1)

R2 remove from your setup your inducing issues and equipment that are not needed and could possibly cause a loop.

When you have all that complexity removed and the LAN setup corectly then launch Element Manager and do the following:

Connect your laptop to the OAM port where you launch element manager and in turn go to Config~System~IP Subsystem-LAN Interface tab. The box for DHCP or Dynamic should be checked.
The assigned DHCP address is what you would use to browse to or use in element manager to connect to your BCM from your PC w/o having to be pluged directly into the BCM itself.

In Element manager if setup correctly
It will issue a DHCP address to your BCM where you can in turn access it from your LAN.

No cross-over cable is needed. Cross-overs are only needed if you have a R1 - R2 pluged into each other or a Sw1 to SW2 basicially same equipment means use a cross-over to connect. Different equipment such as a router to a switch or in your case a client laptop to the BCM a straight through cable will work just fine. A cross-over in your setup will just confuse things because it could cause un-necessary problems if used incorrectly.
