Hi, I am an ASP beginner, and just trying to access or or and cannot.
I get a dialog box:

"The Web page you requested is not available offline. To view this page, click Connect"

Then I have two buttons: "Connect" and "Stay offline"
(At the moment I am not connected to the Internet)

I appreciate any help, Ilan.

Make sure your PWS is started, and then just click "Stay Offline"

You should only receive the message once after you tell it that.

You might also go into tools-->internet options--> connections

and tell it to never dial a connection. That may keep the box from showing in the first place.

Have you tried clicking connect?

If you click connect it should not connect to the internet. It will just connect to your web server.

Hi and thanks for responding so quickly to my question.
I actually clicked the "stay offline" button, checked the "never dial" ck box and clicked "connect" as well. None of these helped or connected me to the localhost page.
Here I have Win2K OS with IIS 5, and I haven't gone through its configuration yet. After installing this OS, there is a page that takes you through the IIS 5 configuration. I haven't done it. Might it be the cause of lack of connection here?
Let me know what you think, and if this is the reason, I’ll be more than happy to get a step-by-step direction on how to configure it from you or a web page somewhere.
Thanks, Ilan.

If you set up IIS to look at a directory that you put in the directory and set it up to look at your files then it should open it.

On my home machine I just click 'connect' and it opens it, and I do not have an internet connection.

See if setting up IIS helps first and then we can look other solutions

Phonez, hi.
Did you set your IIS? If yes, how?

When I type in the address bar:
I get the dialogue box:
"Connect" or "stay offline", I click --> connect,

Then I get a dialogue box:
"Work offline" or "try again", I click --> work offline
Then I get are two web pages:
and

When I type I get the same dialogue boxes and the same pages with "my_server_name" instead of "localhost".

When I type although I get the same dialog boxes and respond the same way, nothing happens.

Also, I created a virtual directory and created a simple asp page exactly as described in an ASP book, but it doesn't work, and I cannot view this page. I am not quite sure what is the problem, but it is obvious that there is
one. I did in in the past with PWS of Win98 and it worked.

This Win2K OS is on a second HD of my hp cmputer. On my other HD I have WinXP that is connected to the Internet via cables. But here using Win2K I cannot connect to the Internet from some reason. I might not have a Network
card. Also I don't have sounds or music on this OS (Win2K), and so probably don't have a sound card. How do I get these cards? Is there anything else I need to buy beside the Win2K OS? Can I download it? Is there any connection
to not being able to view the localhost web page?

Thanks, Ilan

From what you said about what comes up when you type in it sounds like you have not set up your directory in IIS. The one that came up for you is the default one.

If you set up your home directory to the directory that you set up in the inetpub directory and set up the opening file that it should point to, then it should work fine.

If you have anymore problems then let me know and I can advise you further
