Can't open folders on network with Word
We have a file server on the network with Windows NT 4 that stores much data and files. Users get a drive mapped to specific folders that they use to store their files. When the user opens My Computer, double clicks on the mapped drive, and then opens the folder directly, everything shows up. When they open Word, then File, Open, and browse to this drive, and try to open the folder that way, only about half of the folders and show up and none of the Word docs. Same way for saving a new document. When they do File, Save as, and browse to this network mapped drive, they can't save because they just get a few folders and an hour glass while trying to access this folder. It's not a rights thing because they can open it with explorer or going through My Computer. Any assistance is appreciated.

did you ever get an answer or resolution? I just developed the exact same problem!

any suggestions appreciated (well, only business-related ones) JL Filler,Wilton Public Schools, Wilton CT

Could not figure out the problem, but have a resolution that worked.
Go to the user workstation with the issue, open Word. Go to Tools, options, File locations -- Add in the whole pathway to where a user's home folder is, example: All of our users get a mapped drive to their user folders - so make the path P:\userfolder or \\servername\drive\folder\user

That seemed to solve the problem. If the user had to browse their way in to the location that they wanted to save to, then it seems like the memory cache or something filled up along the way and caused issues. I do not yet know why this happens. The above solution did fix the problem.

Let me know.
