I'm having some trouble accessing a simple file share on my server through a vpn connection. The share has full control enabled on the sharing permissions and security tab for the user that i'm connecting with. Am I forgetting something? When I'm connected to the VPN, and try to access the server, for example, typing \\server-name\share in an explorer window, it can't find the server.. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

That works!! GREAT! So what could my problem be with the name resolution? Am I not running a service I need on my server?

The problem is that your local computer that is connected via VPN is using your local DNS server instead of your company's DNS. There are many ways around this, or to address this, but most of them depend highly on the VPN client, etc. What are you using?

In that case, check the TPC/IP settings on the Network tab of that VPN connection. If they are manually configured, verify that the IPs are correct. If they are set to get them automatically, check your VPN endpoint to ensure it is configured to hand out the proper IP address of your company's DNS server(s).
