I want to access an external hard drive from botyh my Mac and PC. Of course, not at the same time. I want to use it to move large amounts of data. I am running OS 10.2 and WIndows XP.

Here are some questions:

Is there any way to get the mac to read an NTFS hard drive?

If I have to use a FAT formatting, is there a limit to the size of the partitions? I have a 25o GB hard drive

To format it using FAT, I believe that I have to get Partitionn magic since I don't think XP can format a FAT drive.

Any other pointers are appreciated

Dan

It's been a while since I last formatted so I'm fuzzy on this but you can always use OSX to format a drive if XP does not make a FAT volume. OSX can do all kinds of formatting. If that does not work well for you, there are a couple free drive format utilities at versiontracker.com

Macs are not able to read NTFS, but read FAT just fine. The limit on a FAT32 partition is 8 Terabytes, but you might need to buy a utility to format that.

Not true. I mount windows ntfs drives & read them fine.

...and only in the latest cat of OSX.
