Hello,

I'm trying to get more than one Windows machine connected to a DS4200 via fibre channel. As far as I know it's possible to share the DS4200 in general (Windows-mapped drives via fastT drivers), but with seperate storage areas (via LUN masking). Every attempt to share the exact same storage area led to NTFS corruption up to now.
Do you know how to make simultaneous access possible here, especially in a small corporate environment? Any hints would be appreciated.

euhm, sharing the same lun on multiple servers allways leads to corruption. It's all about scsi reservations. The only way for multiple hosts to access the same lun ( or storage area as you call it),is setting the hosts up in a cluster, and even then they are not accessing the lun at the exact same moment.)

Thanks for your quick and helpful answer. As there'll need to be a cluster set up anyway your suggestion might in fact be the simplest solution to the problem.
Nevertheless: Did you ever try something else like SANergy or a hardware based solution for shared access to an IBM storage device that worked out fine?

The Windows NTFS file system only allows one host to have access to the disk at one time. Cluster services can sort of get around this issue by taking the passive cluster computers offline.

There are a couple of other software file systems out there that can install into Windows and allow more than 1 host access to the same disk, but I have no experience with them.
