We have domain administrator privelages,
we have shared local cdrom drives with all users
all permissions are set to read/write/etc
from my computer i map into the other admins cd drive on the network shares,
when i go to explore the cd we cannot access it......

we did however prep our domain controllers for update to win 2003 - so all the active directory and forrest hasd been changed.

we can however on the same computer we have virtual drives and are able to access them without any problems.

Do you have any trouble accessing standard shares?

Is your network on TCP/IP, or is it running another protocol?

Are the CD-drives standard, or are they CD-RW?

BTW, there's also a local security policy that could be preventing the CD access: "Devices: Restrict CD-ROM access to locally logged-on users." By default it's disabled, although a domain-wide policy might be in place to enable that policy setting.

checked the local and network security settings - and its disabled on both - all other sharing works fine between a large network - its just that local cd rom drives are not accessable - however local virtual cdro drives are accessable
