When I create a user on the domain and the user logs onto the domain from the client, for the first time, it can take 10 - 20 minutes for authentacation process to complete and bring up the desk top.

The next time a user logs on it may take only a minute or two.

Does anyone know why it takes so long for the user to be authentacated through the domain the first time?

Thanks ahead of time!!!

We have the same problem... I believe it is creating the profile on the local system. Why it takes so long I don't know but I think that has something to do it... I good test would be to delete the profile of the user and then login again to see if it takes as long.

Not only is it creating the profile, but it is also creating the domain policies/OU policies. If there are a bunch of settings within the domain Group Policy, then this could slow down the machine. Also, there could be scripts running in the background. Find out, and you may have your answer.
