My application was developed in ACCESS2000 (front end) and the tables reside on a server (sql).

I've created an mde from the main app several times, always overwriting the previous one. Each time I get a user request to 'add this button, disable that feature", I create a new mde for distribution.

Suddenly I can't. I get an error message
..." unable to create mde file" -

I'm in BIG trouble. Please can someone help?????

Without knowing additional information, I don't think anyone can help you.

1. Have you tried creating it under a different name?
2. Have you tried saving it in a different folder just in case the error is occurring due to a security issue.
3. Have you compacted the Access Database prior to the mde creation?

Try one of those - it may help???

Other thoughts

Is an error message showing up in Event Viewer?
Is there any other info available when the error is displayed???

Dear Rasanders,

Thank you for your response, and tips. I had tried all 3 suggestions before, to no avail. The problem however, was not my application - rather, the cause was my new PC. Some registry files/libraries were missing. Once that was fixed, my application compiled without any problem and I was able to continue.

Many thanks again,
NSRW

Dear nsrw,

I get your same problem creating MDE files.
What are the registry files/libraries missing that you fixed? And how?

thank a lot, Bonopips

bonopips,
Try opening one of your modules and viewing the code. Then go to Tools->References and check for any missing references. This is the leading cause of compilation issues under Access.

I have received similar issues when trying to create an mde file on a network drive. For some reason, it always fails if I try to do this, so instead I create it on my desktop and then move it to the network drive. (This is one of those issues that is inconvenient, but not enough of a problem for me to get me to troubleshoot it.)
