Hi,
We have a middleware application running under Solaris 8 that monitors new entries written to a Windows NT file. Our Unix administrator make the connection through Samba which was running in a Red Head Linux box. Everything runs fine for the first 10-15 minutes. After that our middleware application could not see any new entry written to the NT file, althought new entries were still visible to simple file editor such as vi. After about one hour, we were not able to connect to the NT file anymore (ie. even vi cannot see the content of the file. All we can see is the filename only! Our Unix administrator said that the connection drops due to some problem between the Linux and the Solaris box.
Has anyone out there experienced the same situation? What I cannot understand is that Samba has to be set up in a separate Linux box. I have heard great things about Samba and Unix, but how come they cannot co-exist in the same box? Would it be a problem if I insist our Unix administrator to install another copy of Samba in the same Solaris box. Would such a cofiguration help??
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
