When using the VBA editor in Access 2000 and occasionally XP using a varierty of machines and platforms I get the following problem...

The textbar at the top of the screen starts flickering rapidly. Any new line of code being entered is coloured red and spaces cannot be entered (until the line is re-edited following a return) and some characters switch positions.

Restarting Access cures the problem until it occurs again.
This is very frustrating. What is causing this and what do I do about it?

It sounds like you may well have a graphics card issue here. I use the VB editor for Access 2002 on an XP machine and don't have any such issues...

Try downloading the latest drivers from your VGA manufacturers site.

I have had a similar problem except for the code being entered in red. I don't think it is graphics card related as it happened on a number of different XP maxhines. However have not found a solution for this either

check the wheel on your mouse when this happens.

sometimes the wheel gets funny and tries to scroll up and down at the same time. causing typing to be on several lines which causes the debugger to turn incomplete lines red , and causes characters to be typed on the wrong lines etc. etc.. etc...

Just to correct my original post, the new code lines are not coloured red as I stated, only amended code lines. The problem is not machine specific which probably rules out the graphics card. After reading one reply, I have since experienced the problem on a machine with a wheeless mouse.

Thanks for the replys, though I am still none the wiser. Having had this problem at several sites on various machines, I find it hard to believe this is not a common problem.

I have this problem quite frequently as well. I work in Access 97 and this problem seems to attach itself to particular databases, so I can have two databases open, one that has the problem and one that does not. I have tried compacting, repairing, anything and nothing seems to help. It make coding very painful and it's driving me batty!!! If any has any insight to this, please help!!

Whoops, didn't realise I had left this question unresolved. I know what causes this problem now...

The problem is caused when editing code in a form if another form (which might be invisible) is still open in run view. It seems to create some kind of conflict.
