Hello

I've got an Access front end for various SQL tables and all works well for a while, but eventually I get an error saying:

'Could not execute query; could not find linked table.

[Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] [SQL Server] Invalid object name 'table_name' (#208)'

I've tried relinking the tables and it works again, but not after I close the Access table down and re-open. There are various users of this database on a network and it seems to be a gradual shutdown, so that some people have access for a while but eventually they will all run into the same error. Any help/suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Hmmmm

I recall this issue somewhere.

Not promising anything, but I think if you keep a recordset open, you preserve your link to the backend, otherwise it can drop.

One way to preserve the link would be that the main menu connects to the backend and stays open until you close the application.

Hi willir - not sure if I understand this. Everything is fine for several months at a time, but eventually everyone gets this error and it's impossible to configure the database in the same way.

I've tried refreshing using the linked table manager and this either works while the database remains open or it opens the linked tables without requesting the SQL login name and password. Both thes consequences are baffling.

It's frustrating because any new Access front end I create only has a limited lifespan, and this has proved to be a much quicker method of producing a content management system than setting up asp pages.
