i'm trying to develope security for our databases in access. since i'm new at this, its hit and miss so far.

i copied a database, placed it in a folder on my desktop, and started applying passwords, permissions and such. i created a fictitious employee with a password. Now, everytime i try and access any database in my system, the logon box pops up wanting the password i created. also, my system shows that i should have full permission, but my "real" password won't work.

i have closed the database, opened the database through file checked the exclusive box, went to tools, security. however, the "set password" does not change to "unset password".

please help in setting me straight, i'm more or less teaching myself through books and the internet.

thanks for your help,

rod heiser

I am having the same problem but if you want to use access without the code open the folder where the database is kept. Select all files then delete the file that says secured. It will not be a database icon even though it is a database.
I can locate the password but i need to know how to decode a square/ rectangle password let me know what happens.

Learn about Access Security first, before doing anything else. From Microsoft:
Microsoft Access Security FAQ:

Anyway, step 1 is to create a new "workgroup" file, a *.MDW file. What you're doing right now is overwriting the SYSTEM.MDW (default) workgroup, which is a bad idea. Don't do this. Trust me. Read the FAQ--it will help.

I agree with foolio12 and have only used that technique when i can't access the database through forgotten passwords and don't want to pay so thanks to foolio12 for help on this issue. This is the last resort and it will probly ask for access 2000 disk as it will rewrite the default. If you don't know database passwords then also seek a programs on internet that do this. The free ones only give the first couple of letters

You may want to try this out but it worked for me.
Go into the Microsoft Access and delete all the security features. Then go and click on Microsoft Access as to open it. It will then ask for the system disk. It then replaces the missing files but restores security as default.
This method worked for me.
Let me know what you think.
If i have time later i will give persific files to delete, however they in windows xp they are shown by a key.
