I have an Access database which is resident on teacher's computers. Since many teachers share computers I would rather obtain the username(id) from either Novell or Groupwise but don't have a clue where this info is stored. Thanks in advance for any help.

The user name is normally in the USERNAME environment variable.

I appreciate your information but I am totally unaware of environment variable. I searched the books that I have purchased and they are very limited. Any further help or details would be appreciated

Type "set" to see what the variables are. Type "echo %username%" to see the current username. The environment variables can be accessed by external programs, so you can read them and do what you like.

A thousand thank you's. It was nwusername that I was looking for. Thank you for the "set" clue.
