Access Problems with Default Network Printer.

Hi,

For the past couple of days a number of people in my compant have experienced a weird problem with MS Access 2003 being unable to print to networked printers.

All other Office applications work, however when attempting to print from Access 2003 (reports, forms, tables) the toolbar button just shows "no printer".

We've tried the obvious - reinstall Access, reinstall printer - to no avail.

The problem affects specific accounts (not machines).

Strangely if you change the default printer to a non-networked printer, and then change the selected printer to the networked printer in the Print dialog box everything works. There is only a problem when the networked printer is set as default.

I've found numerous posts about this in a nunmber of forums on Google - just no solutions that work!

Has anyone experienced this who has found an answer?

Just a shot in the dark, but there have been known problems when Adobe (not Adobe Acrobat) is installed. Also make sure Name Autocorrect is turned off.

None of these PCs have Adobe installed and Name Autocorrect is already turned off.

Any other suggestions?

In case anyone experiences the same problem in the future the solution was to install the PostScript drivers (rather than the default PCL drivers that HP recommend for the printer in question).

This has also solved another problem we've had with MS Access refusing to print duplex.

OK, I think I just stumbled across this one. But, here is a shot in the dark. Instead of adding the printer via the Add Printer wizard under Printers and Faxes. Try opening the server on which the printer is located and double click the printer to connect. Try Access and see if this works. It did for me.

I'm not sure. My guess is probably not!

Printers are now working bet still not printing duplex, despite having the PS drivers deployed. Strangely installing PS drivers from the CD works fine. Hmmmm.....

I'm having this problem now. The only problem is the printer was originally a PS printer when it was having a problem. I set it to PCL recently because it was having issues printing bar codes as a PS printer.

I have had this problem on a LJ5N and had to use a PS driver. Also I have removed Access 2003 and gone back to Access 2000 which worked fine with the PCL driver. I found no relief with the updated SPs.
