Hi: Four questions. . .(if go forward with learning Access)
1) If I build a little project, can I turn it into an .exe?
2) If I can build the project on my computer, can I than take it to a friend's machine and he use it?
3) Does he need a particular verision of Windows?
4) Does he need to have Access on his machine? (. . .like we do in Excel)
Appreciate any feedback.

As stated,

No you cannot build an EXE file with Access
However you can build an Access Royalty Free Run Time Application if you buy Office Developer from Microsoft. This would enable you to build and distribute an application to any non Access running computer.

I'd go with the Office Developer option mentioned by JoeEskimo.

1. No and Yes. There are some plug ins that allow one to convert a .mdb to a visual basic application (this is an .exe) but they have all been real buggy and involved a lot of re-writing code.

2. Yes and No. If your friend's computer has access on it you should be able to use it there. The changes he makes will not be made on the project on your computer.

3. Yes. Any version of windows should be fine, but I wouldn't go trying it out on older versions (Windows 95).

4. Yes. Other computers would need access. The project you make is just an access file. It requires the Access Application to open and read the files, similar to Excel or Word. If the other computer doesn't have Access the file format may not be recognizable by the computer, or it may open with another program but not work correctly.

If you get Office Developer you can deploy your projects by including Access Runtime. This allows users to use your project, but not create their own. You should be careful with this too, because if the user already has Access on thier computer, Runtime and Access can fight over opening other .mdb files.

Hope this helps.
