I have a problem on the network drive where the access database reside there is lock file which is preventing the database from opening. I have checked the file and for the machine it is pointing to, the database is close on that. Whenever I try to open it I get the following error " The database that you are trying to open or convert is currently in user, or you do not have permission to open it exclusively."

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Can't you just delete the .ldb file, that should free up the db.

Hi Ept

Yes I did try to delete the file but it kept on giving the same message. Although, I am able to fix the problem by resaving the database on a machine which was running Access 97 as it was developed in that format.

Try turning off and then on the PC which was accessing the database. I found that the .ldb file remained if the PC was turned off with the database open. Turning on the PC again cleaned up the ,ldb file

When you call out for help in the darkness, and you hear a voice in return, you're probably just talking to yourself again!

Hi Mike

I did try most of the basic troubleshooting techniques before posting my request, in my case rebooting the machine did not close the ldb. Thanks for your suggestion.

I've had this problem before...It normally indicates that a user shut down their computer innapropriately or a loss of power shut their system down. Try accessing the database from the computer the lock file is pointing to. Once you open and close it on that computer the lock file should go away.
