Hi there,

I currently have a Server 2003 box which is set up to act as a fileshare. Our company's software creates a folder for a client when a new client is added to our system.

For some reason certain folders are not allowing any access to them and display them as being empty.

I have made sure all security permissions on all parent folders have been modified to allow access but for some reason certain "blocks" of folders are showing this error whereas others are not.

Any thoughts on what may be causing the problem or can fix it would be greatly appreaciated.

Thanks in advance

Mark

Have you checked the Replace permission entries on all child objects box on the parent folder?

Hi Porkchopexpress,

I've just tried replacing permission entries on all child objects and for the folders which are affected it throws up a dialog box "Error Applying Security - Access is denied

Are they just data folders?

If someone has taken ownership of the folder and removed everyone else including the admin then you will have to take ownership back to view or change permissions.

Yes they are just data folders that contain word documents relating to that client.

I've checked that no-one else has taken ownership and have retried to take control but its just not allowing me to do so.

Seems strange its only on a certain few folders and not all of them in the parent folder.

You are logged on as domain admin and are unable to take ownership of the folders?

Do you receive any errors?

Did this happen recently or after a particular event?

It might be worth running a virus scan and if the fails to find a problem checkdisk.
