Hello,

I set up FTP on the server. It works fine useing it on the Lan. How do I set up FTP server so it can be accessed from the Internet when I am away.

I open the browser and type in ftp://ftpuser2:123456@12.248.0.0

I get an error,"Windows cannot access this folder. Make sure you typed the file name correctly and that you have permission to access the folder".

FTP session terminated.

Thanks,

What is the architecture of your network?

Depending on your network architecture, will determine if you have to establish a policy, routing entry or specify a DMZ in your firewall or router appliance.

Thanks for the feedback.

I have 1 Windows 2000 Advanced Server with a Domain Controller and Active Directory. Four WinXP clients all in a Lab environment so we don't screw up the Corps. network.

The Server has internet service using a Cable Modem (The IP Address is constent) with a Linksys Cable/DSL Router. I opened Port 21 on the Router to the Server's IP address.

I tried everything and I can't get into the FTP folder from the Internet. I can get into the folder from the Local Intranet.

The last set up I tried was from a site on the Internet.
This link may help you to see what I did so far.

This won't work from the internet but works from the intranet.

Thanks for any help.

12.248.0.0 is the network your FTP server is on. If you have port 21 open and you have setup your FTP server as a DMZ then if you type in the address of the untrusted zone (internet) then you should be able to get to the ftp server.

For example,

Dynamic IP untrusted IP/Network IP 12.248.0.1 12.248.0.2
FTP User >> Linksys >> FTP Server

ftp://ftpuser2:123456@untrustedIP should reroute to 12.248.0.2

Update, still working on this having no luck yet.

Hello,

Update: The FTP server can be reached from the out side.(Internet)

The person that goes to my FTP server needs to log on first with a password before the files are seen. The FTP page opens and they can read my message and see the files. When a file is clicked to down load they get a, Page can't be opened.

I have Permissions set at Read Execute, List folder contents and Read. Using FTP on the office network everything works fine.

Anyone know if I forgot something?
Please read my original post.

Thanks,

Hello,

bcastner, I forgot to add that I tried that link you suggested and set the router.

These settings put me in the position I stated in my last post. User can log onto the FTP server but can't download files.

Does the users browser have anything to do with it? The user has IE 5.5. It has no FTP settings in, Internet Options>Advance. IE 6 does. Just a thought.

Thanks,

In order to download files through your FTP site in IE the user must copy the item to a location on the local machine. Similarly, to upload a document in IE, just paste it into the browser.
