Hello developers out there,

I am doing enhancements to an application with about 18,000 records. I am in the testing process, before going into production. When I attemp to copy one of the tables for the testing, I am getting the following error message:
"The Microsoft jet database engine stopped the process because you and another user are attempting to change the same data at the same time.", in spite of only one user using the system. I am afraid that the database is corrupted. Any advice in how to correct the table?

Thanks

Joe

Have you tried opening the database in 'exclusive' mode? (you do this by clicking on the drop arrow next to the Open button and selecting Open Exclusive) I realise that you are the only one with it open but Access sometimes likes to know that for sure.

Ahhh! The old Microsoft jet Engine errors. I have been working in Access for quite some time now, and I have seen this error pop-up from time to time. The problem is most likely a corrupt record (as opposed to your whole table being corrupted). Do a partial copy, while this is can be time consuming it reveals the problem perfectly. Check to see WHEN the error is occurring. For example, if the error happens immediately then the corrupt record is most likely in the beginning of the table. Copy about 1000 records at a shot (considering you have 18000) - don't even worry about pasting them - until you get the error. When you get the error with your selection, try 100 at a shot, and so on. Find that bad record and get rid of it! Once you are able to select the 100 record set without errors you should be able to copy all the records, unless you have other bad records...if so start over. This method has worked for me several times, and I hope it helps!

Good Luck!

Mike

Geez, I really need to read my post beofre submitting. I really was trying to point out that if you select 10 records and try to copy them, you probably won't get an error, which indicates that those records are fine. When you DO try to COPY the bad record, that is when you will get the error. So the game is to copy records until you get the error, then delete said record. Hope that helps.
