The original database is in Access 97. The new database is Access 2000. The operating system is XP. The problem is the VB code on the forms disappears when the database is closed. Here are possible clues.
1) Converting a closed database the code is always gone.
2) Creating a blank database and importing the objects from the 97 database works until the database is closed then the code is gone.
3) Compressing the database makes the code disappear.
4) Closing Access 2000, it hangs for quite some time.

Assuming that you are not setting the 'has module' properties of the forms to 'No', then suspect corruption of the database. Take a copy then look at the following site for help - maybe use 'decompile'and see if that helps.

The link below is useful

NB Take a copy of your database before you try anything!
